What is Cupping Therapy?
Cupping therapy is a traditional method used by many to help reduce pain. It involves a therapist placing cups on different parts of your body such as your back, stomach, arms, or legs. These cups create a suction effect, gently lifting your skin. Originating from ancient China and West Asia, cupping has been a trusted practice for thousands of years.
You might also hear it called cup therapy or suction cup therapy. At Sterling Physiotherapy Hamilton clinic, the most popular type of cupping we offer is known as dry cupping.
When cupping therapy treatment is not recommended?
Cupping therapy treatment is not recommended for individuals with open cuts or wounds, severe heart or vascular conditions, active tuberculosis, hemophilia, active cancer, high fever or flu, seizures, skin conditions affecting elasticity, or hernias. Additionally, cupping should be approached with caution for pregnant individuals, on certain facial areas, on healing or thin skin, in those taking blood thinners, and in individuals with poor tissue healing.
